Nasce a New York City, il padre, Barone Haden Guest è un Inglese, diplomatico all' ONU, sua madre J.P. Hindes è' americana. Fa la sua eperienza in arti drammatiche al New York City's High School of Arts and Music e al Bard College. Attore e regista. Recita nel film Il giustiziere della notte. Nel 1989 debutta come regista per il grande schermo con il film Il grande regista di cui cura anche la sceneggiatura. E' sposato con Jamie Lee Curtis, hanno due figli, anche il fratello Nicholas Guest è attore.
